Two soldiers were killed on Feb. 3 during clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Sur district of the southeastern province of Diyarbak?r, the Turkish General Staff has announced.

"One of our hero soldiers was heavily wounded as a result of an armed attack by terrorists of the separatist terror organization during ongoing operations in the Sur district of Diyarbak?r province on Feb. 3 and immediately transferred to hospital. However, he was martyred at 1:10 p.m. despite all efforts," the statement said. The Turkish state often describes casualties in armed conflicts as being martyred.

Earlier that day, another soldier, who was wounded in another anti-PKK operation in Sur, also succumbed to his injuries at Diyarbak?r Military Hospital.
