Farmers to protest in northern Greece

Farmers are expected to drive their tractors to the Axios bridge near Idomeni in northern Greece Saturday morning before continuing to the Evzoni crossing near the border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as part of a protest against the government's ongoing austerity drive.

According to organizers of the protest, farmers will block the border crossing to protest the impact of the government's recent pension cuts along with other belt-tightening measures.

On Monday, farmers from Farsala, Karditsa, Trikala and Larissa in central Greece are to stage symbolic protests in their areas.
