Slovenia met 55% of own energy needs in 2020

Ljubljana – Slovenia met 55% of its energy needs from own sources of energy in 2020, reducing its energy dependence by 7 percentage points compared with the previous year, mainly due to reduced import of petroleum products and increased domestic energy production, the Statistics Office said on Monday.

The total amount of domestic energy sources in Slovenia in 2020 was 3.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent, which is by 5% more than in 2019.

The available energy supply for Slovenia was 6.4 million tonnes of oil equivalent, which is by 5% less than in 2019. The supply of petroleum products decreased the most, namely by 16%.

The entire quantity of petroleum products was imported.

In the structure of supplied energy, petroleum products prevailed with 29%, followed by nuclear energy with 25%, renewable energy sources (including hydro energy) with 19%, coal with 16% and natural gas with 11%.
