Vaccination pace picking up

Ljubljana – The pace of vaccination is gradually picking up in Slovenia. Almost 132,000 shots were administered last week, up by about thirty percent from the week before, show data by the tracker Covid-19 Sledilnik.

While the last week of May was the first time that the number of weekly doses exceeded 100,000, the first week of June saw the highest number of shots delivered in one day as over 35,000 people were inoculated on 3 June.

For this week, vaccination centres have ordered 135,000 doses, the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) said.

Overall, just under 1.2 million shots have been administered since the vaccination campaign got under way late last year.

More than 34% of the population has received at least one shot and 22.8% are fully inoculated, show official NIJZ data.

Measured in the over-18 population, 41.6% have received one shot and 27.7% are fully vaccinated.

This compares to 47% and 22.9% in the EU on average, according to the latest weekly data by the European Centre for Disease Control.
