Croatia's constitutional court: No referendum on Cyrillic
ZAGREB - Croatia will not hold a referendum on the official use of the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet after the country's constitutional court ruled the proposed referendum question as unconstitutional.
The Constitutional Court made the ruling on Monday after the parliament requested that the constitutionality of the announced referendum be assessed.
Dip in Unemployment Cheers Croatia
Croatia’s Employment Bureau, HZZ, on Monday reported that the number of unemployed adults fell to 296,094 in July and again to 294,988 on Monday, 11 August.
The last time the number fell below 300,000 was in July 2012, when the jobless total was 298,690.

Yugoslav football legend Vladimir Beara passes away
SPLIT - The best Yugoslav goalkeeper of all time Vladimir Beara died at the age of 86 in Split, Croatia.
Beara passed away on Sunday to Monday night at his home in Split, reads the release issued by the Croatian football club Hajduk, adding that Beara had suffered a series of strokes over the past several years.
Croats Eye Using Serbia to Skirt Russian Ban
Serbia says it will crack down hard on countries trying to evade the Russian ban on EU food imports, which try to repackage their goods inside Serbia.
The warning comes after reports in local media that Croatia’s Employer’s Association, HUP, advised local food exporters to repackage products in neighbouring Serbia to skirt the Russian ban.
Fitch Drops Credit Rating for Croatia
One of the world’s top credit rating agencies, Fitch Ratings has lowered Croatia’s long-term credit rating in foreign currency from BB+ to BB, lowering its domestic currency rating from BBB- to BB+.
Standard & Poor’s has given Croatia a BB rating since the start of the year. Croatia’s rating with Moody’s remains BB+.
Serbia Ready to Plug Ambassadorial Holes
Serbia's Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, said that Serbia is about to appoint 20 new ambassadors, including to US and China, in the next four months.
The initial plan was to appoint ten new ambassadors to posts in July. However, Dacic told the daily newspaper Danas on August 8 that there had been a delay after the ministry realised the number needed to be doubled.
