Thessaloniki doc festival to be moved online

The 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (TDF), which was postponed amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic in March, will be moved online, organizers said Wednesday.

This year's films, including 77 local productions, will be screened between May 19-28. Films will only be available for 400 free viewings. They will not be accessible outside Greece.

ELTA releases first stamp series of 2020

"Ancient Greek Theaters" is the title of the first series of stamps issued by Hellenic Post (ELTA) in 2020.
The series is the first to be released in conditions of global and strict quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The new commemorative series consists of five stamps that reveal the rich cultural heritage of Epirus in northwestern Greece.

The Greek Yale University professor, Nicholas A. Christakis, has called on Greeks, in a post on Twitter, to honor the new lockdown announced by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday and self-isolate.

The Olympic flame handover ceremony for the Tokyo Games will take place without spectators in an effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak, the Greek Olympic committee said Monday.

UPB students gain four medals at SEEMOUS 2020

Students at the Automatics and Computers Faculty of the Politechnica University of Bucharest gained four medals, one gold and three silver, at SEEMOUS - a maths competition for Southeast Europe, with international participation, which took place between March 3 and 8 in Greece, in Thessaloniki.

World acoustic duo Kadinelia comprised of Thanasis Zikas and Evi Seitanidou comes to the main stage of Stavros tou Notou for a concert blending traditional Greek music with elements of blues and rock. The duo was formed in 2013 and since 2014 has been covering traditional songs from Greece and other countries. The concert begins at 9 p.m.

Jack Savoretti | Athens | March 21

British-Italian crooner Jack Savoretti visits Greece for a concert at the Iera Odos live venue in the center of Athens. Savoretti gained great popularity in Greece during 2019 thanks to his singles of that year, including "Candlelight" and "Love Is On The Line." He has worked with singers such as Kylie Minogue and Mika and his sixth album, "Singing to Strangers," was #1 in the UK Charts.

Hanks, Wilson post video on bicentennial party

Acclaimed American actor and filmmaker Tom Hanks and his wife, actress and producer Rita Wilson, called on posted a short clip on the website urging people to participate in Greece's bicentennial  celebrations of the anniversary of Greece's War of Independence against Ottoman rule.

Emergency measures for three prefectures over Covid-19

The government announced emergency measures on Wednesday evening in the prefectures of Ilia, Zakynthos and Achaia in western Greece to contain the spread of the coronavirus after a ninth case was confirmed earlier in the day. 

Under the measures schools, sports arenas, cinemas, theaters and archaeological sites will be closed for 48 hours.
