Number of new coronavirus infections up to 477

Ljubljana – The number of daily reported new coronavirus infections in Slovenia is again similar to the numbers recorded in mid-May, with 477 new cases confirmed in 2,489 PCR tests on Monday, according to data provided by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

National plan for higher education announcing changes in financing

Ljubljana – The draft 2021-2030 National Programme for Higher Education, which will be up for public debate until 20 September, envisages changes to the granting of concessions and financing of higher education institutions. The Education Ministry says the document will be the basis for policies in higher education in the next decade.

Highest Sunday case count since mid-May

Ljubljana – Slovenia reported 116 coronavirus infections for Sunday in what is the highest Sunday case count since 10 May. The 14-day incidence per 100,000 population continued to rise, by four to 163, show fresh figures.

No consensus on Afghan Refugees in EU

There is no consensus whatsoever among the European Union countries, not even the majority in favor of accepting Afghan refugees, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said in a tweet on Sunday.

Equality ombudsman says PCT does not discriminate unvaccinated

Ljubljana – The requirement for people to meet the recovered-vaccinated-tested (PCT) rule to access services, goods or venues is not discriminatory against the unvaccinated who could get vaccinated but have not, Slovenia’s equal opportunities ombudsman has established as he examined a petition from a hospitality trade union.

Police break up migrant smuggling ring

Koper – The police have uncovered a criminal ring that has been smuggling migrants from Bosnia through Croatia and Slovenia to Italy. According to the Koper Police Department, the ring consisted of six members – four Slovenians, one Kosovo national and one national of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Slovenia faring well in terms of social rights, says IMAD

Brussels – The Slovenian EU presidency strongly supports and expresses solidarity with the EU countries which have come under pressure from illegal migrants from Belarus, Slovenian Interior Minister Aleš Hojs said as he was en route to host a session of EU home affairs ministers to discuss a recent migrant influx from Belarus on Wednesday.

Number of new infections on Friday highest since 3 June

Ljubljana – A total of 264 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in Slovenia on Friday in 1,869 PCR tests, for a positivity rate of 14.1%, up 3.3 percentage points compared to the day before. The number of new infections confirmed yesterday is by 65 higher than on Thursday, and is the highest daily number since 3 June.

To enter Slovenia more stringent measures will be introduced

All transit passengers must present proof of vaccination, a medical report showing that they have had a virus or a negative test to enter the country.
"From August 23, transit through Slovenia will no longer be possible without meeting the PCT conditions," the government said in a statement after the session held last night.

Nearly 200 coronavirus infections confirmed on Thursday

Ljubljana – A total of 199 coronavirus infections were confirmed in Slovenia on Thursday in 1,841 PCR tests for a positivity rate of 10.8%. The cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents continued to steadily increase, standing at 92, up by four on the day before, show fresh data by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

New Covid infections continue to rise week-on-week

Ljubljana – Slovenia reported 144 new coronavirus infections for Thursday in 1,771 PCR tests for a positivity rate of 8.1% as the week-on-week rise in new infections continued for the 9th day in a row. The 7-day average of new cases was up by four to 116 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents rose by four to 64, show fresh official data.

Koper police help migrants caught in a storm

Koper – Koper police on Wednesday helped a group of migrants caught in a storm, and pulled over a van with eleven illegal migrants in south-western Slovenia, the Koper Police Department said on Thursday.

Police received a phone call from an Afghan citizen who said that a group of migrants was caught in a storm “somewhere in the hills”.

Friday case count rises week-on-week

Ljubljana – Slovenia reported 93 new coronavirus infections for Friday in what is another daily case count increase in weekly comparison after two days of a downward trend in infections. The 7-day average case count is up by four to 63 and the cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents rose by one to 39, fresh official data show.

Slovenia reports 58 new Covid cases for Thursday

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s daily coronavirus count has dropped for the second straight day week-on-week as the country logged 58 new cases for Thursday, official figures show.

According to data released by the National Institute of Public Health, 1,641 PCR tests were performed yesterday, for a positivity rate of 3.5%, and 24,646 rapid antigen tests.
