Patrone: New government should carry out announced reforms

BELGRADE - The new Serbian government should carry out significant reforms related primarily to the public sector, but also to adopting systemic laws and improving the business environment in the country, Matteo Patrone, the director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) office in Belgrade, said on Wednesday.

The members of the future government must undertake significant reforms, including amendments to the labour legislation and adoption of other significant laws such as the laws on bankruptcy, privatisation, urban planning and construction, as well as a public sector reform, Patrone told Tanjug.

The measures are a necessity and need to be undertaken, but also need to be well-implemented to produce good results, he said.

More attention should be focused on the private sector, which is vastly significant for the development of Serbia's economy, he said.

That will be an incentive for all measures that should also result in an improved business climate in the country, Patrone said.
