Dead cattle from RS to be destroyed in Serbia

BELGRADE - Cattle killed in devastating floods in Republika Srpska (RS) over the past few days will be destroyed in Serbia, and Serbian Ministry of Agriculture Veterinary Inspectorate chief Sanja Celebicanin has said that the cattle corpses will be brought to Serbia under specially controlled conditions.

“The dead animals will be delivered in specially marked vehicles and under the control of the veterinary inspection to be destroyed safely in the pound,” Celebicanin told Tanjug on Tuesday.

She said that we are dealing with a regional problem here and that it is in everyone’s interest to collect the animal bodies and destroy them as soon as possible to prevent spreading of infections.

“We have figured out that the animal corpses in the bordering regions would enter Serbia’s territory by water anyway and so it is better to pick them up according to the rules for safety and all measures for the protection of people and animal health,” said Celebicanin.

She said that Bosnia-Herzegovina does not have a pound fit for burning animal corpses and that the entire process will be carried out through cooperation of all cross-border services.
