At a recent economic forum in Krynica, Poland, State Secretary for Political Analysis and Parliament with Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) Radu Podgorean voiced a need for close trans-Atlantic cooperation in all areas to meet the new challenges at the eastern borders of Europe.

In a press release issued on Thursday, MAE reports that Podgorean attended a panel on the future of Europe called 'The United States of Europe or the Twilight of the EU?' where he pointed out that in the current regional and global context there is a need for as close a connection as possible between the institutions of the European Union, particularly the European Commission and the European Parliament, and the concerns of the European citizens.

'Deep integration while preserving the principle of unity through diversity and a permanent open and substantive dialogue with the citizens from all the geo-economic and socio-historical areas of Europe are premises for a better harmonisation of the shared European interests,' Podgorean is quoted as having said.

Podgorean also highlighted the part of the Danube region and the EU strategy for the Danube region to boosting cooperation among the member states involved in the project.

Podgorean attended, September 3 and 4, the 24th edition of the Economic Forum in Krynica organised by the Institute for Eastern Studies. The event promotes economic, political, scientific and cultural contacts to contribute to the creation of a climate that is friendly to regional and European cooperation. AGERPRES
