Nationalists protest in Kiev

KIEV -- The nationalist Right Sector party staged a protest on Wednesday in front of the presidency building.

They are opposed to a law on special status of parts of eastern Ukraine.

Nationalists threw firecrackers and smoke bombs at security forces, forcing them to wear protective armor, the news agency Itar-Tass reported.

Several hundred activists of the radical party gathered in front of the presidency, demanding that President Petro Poroshenko vetoes the law on the special status and amnesty for militias.

The Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday passed the law that would grant special status to some parts of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions.
