Romania's Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean on Friday hailed the outcome of the Scottish independence referendum organised and conducted with the approval of the British authorities, saying that this reconfirmed both the unity and strength of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Scotland's membership of the UK, the Romanian Foreign Ministry (AME) reports in a press release on Friday.

Corlatean said the UK, with Scotland an integrant part thereof, is a strategic partner of Romania at a bilateral level, as well as at the level of the EU and NATO.

'We are happy that the UK continues to be the same strong ally of Romania at a European and international level. Amidst the security and economic challenges of today's world, it is necessary more than ever before for the voice of the European Union, by the contribution of each of its member states, to be unitary and consistent in order to be trustworthy,' Corlatean is quoted as saying in the release.

In his opinion, the challenges in the eastern neighbourhood of the EU and NATO as well as those in a larger plane, require coordinated and strong replies. Corlatean pointed out that in order for the EU to matter as a player on the global stages, the EU needs more integration instead of fragmentation. AGERPRES
