Platinum Wolf exercise lives up to expectations

BELGRADE - Members of the armed forces of the United States, Serbia and four regional countries demonstrated on Friday - the closing day of the Platinum Wolf 2015 exercise‚ held at Base South near Bujanovac, southern Serbia - a high level of capabilities for potential tasks in peacekeeping missions.

Members of the Serbian gendarmerie and the Bulgarian, Macedonian, Romanian and Croatian armed forces were also participating in the exercise, which was attended by Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic.

The closing day of the exercise, which began in mid-November, was attended by the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Ljubisa Dikovic, as well as foreign military attaches accredited in Serbia.

Platinum Wolf 2015 is designed to collectively train members of the participating countries' armed forces for efficient use of non-lethal weapons and planning and carrying out tasks in peacekeeping missions within a multinational environment.

As previously announced, the exercise involved around 360 members of the Serbian Armed Forces, the US Marines, the Serbian gendarmerie and the armed forces of four regional countries.

Base South on Capotina Hill, situated more than five kilometres outside Bujanovac, is expected to evolve into an international training centre for multinational operations.
