'They Never Had It Better?' at Museum of Yugoslav History

BELGRADE - 'They Never Had It Better?', an exhibition focusing on the modernization of everyday life in socialist Yugoslavia, will open at the Museum of Yugoslav History in Belgrade on December 27.

The exhibition named 'They Never Had It Better?' has stemmed from a research covering the period from 1950 to 1990 and showcases over 200 objects, 400 photos and 26 video clips as authentic accounts of life in Yugoslavia as it then was.

It will open on the day that used to be marked as Pioneers' Day.

The exhibition will analyze the ways in which everyday life was represented in design, popular culture, media, political parlance, laws and other legal acts regulating work and leisure time, photographs, postcards, TV shows and films, and everyday things.

The authors will try to establish a more intense interaction with the visitors, by inviting them to bring items from that period, to share their memories of what it was like to live in socialism, and to be active participants in content creation and commenting on social networks.

The exhibition is authored by the museum curator Ana Panic, with researchers and experts from all over the former Yugoslavia as the contributors.

The project will also present items and film footage preserved in other museums, archives, libraries and other institutions across Serbia and the region.

The exhibition will be open through February 17, 2015.
