Local stocks lose 1.69 pct before holiday shutdown
The Greek bourse reacted calmly on Tuesday to the result of the presidential vote in Parliament, which while seeing a rise in support for the governments candidate was still some way off the result required in next Mondays third and final vote. The majority of stocks posted small losses on a day of poor turnover ahead of the Christmas recess.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 867.84 points, shedding 1.69 percent from Mondays 867.84 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 1.45 percent to end at 279.64 points. Small-caps rose 1.34 percent.
Energy stocks were hardest hit, as Terna Energy fell 6.58 percent and Public Power Corporation declined 6.14 percent. Folli Follie added 1.07 percent.
In total 40 stocks posted gains, 63 took losses and 19 closed unchanged.
Turnover came to 60.3 million euros, down from Mondays 63.5 million.
The bourse will reopen next Monday following the Christmas holidays that start on Wednesday.
