PM Ponta invites Liberal leaders to dialogue on electoral system, national security package, transport masterplan

Victor Ponta, Romania's Prime Minister and chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), announced on Monday at the beginning of the sitting of the party's National Standing Bureau, that he intends to address the leaders of the National Liberal Party (PNL) a letter inviting them to jointly sit down to discuss the five themes considered to be essential at this moment - the revision of the Constitution, the electoral system, the transport masterplan, the national security package and the Swiss Franc crisis.

"Today I will seek your approval for this suggestion of mine, that in my capacity as PSD chairman and Prime Minister, I should address a letter to the PNL-PDL leadership, to the two chairpersons, Ms. Gorghiu and Mr Blaga, for us to hold within the shortest time a meeting on the current five essential themes: what to do about the revision of the Constitution, about the electoral system ? which already had a dedicated sitting, but in absence of some relevant ppolitical decisions talks can see no progress ? the transport masterplan ? for us to determine with Mr. [Transport Minister] Rus, Mr [Minister for EU Funds] Teodorovici and Mr. [Finance Minister] Valcov whether we go ahead with the masterplan as it was agreed upon with the European Commission, the national security package, because as far as I see, we show up for debates in mass media but each talks separately. We also need to all sit down to examine the ruling of the Constitutional Court and make a clear legislative decision to see to what extent Parliament and the Government can intervene in the financial and banking legislation to weather off future crises which, unfortunately, will occur all the time.
