Bad winter weather hit flights and ferry services in Turkey's largest province Istanbul on Jan. 7.

Turkish Airlines flights and ferry services have been cancelled because of strong southwesterly winds.

The country's national flag carrier announced early on Jan. 7 that it had cancelled over 70 domestic and international flights because of the conditions.

Fast ferry and inter-city sea-bus services have also been affected by the gales, with Istanbul's Fast Ferry and Sea Bus Company (IDO) announcing that it has cancelled all its inter-city services.

Winds are expected to reach up to 90kmh in the Marmara region throughout Jan. 7, according to Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology.
