Rally for peace in Ukraine held in Ljubljana

Ljubljana – A crowd numbering several dozen people, mostly Ukrainian refugees, gathered in the centre of Ljubljana on Sunday to call for peace in Ukraine and an end to Russia’s aggression.

The rally, promoted by the Ukrainian Embassy in Ljubljana, saw the participants holding up banners in Slovenian and English with slogans such as “Stop war in Ukraine” and “We will win together,” public broadcaster TV Slovenija reported.

Yevgeny Goreshnyk, a Ukrainian scientist who has been living in Slovenia for a number of years, said the war in Ukraine would not have happened had the world recognised in 2014, when Russia annexed the Crimea, what a threat to peace and security Russian President Vladimir Putin is.

After gathering in Prešeren Square, the group marched though the centre of the city.
