EUSAIR strategy forum marks end of Slovenia’s AII presidency
Portorož – Slovenia is concluding its third presidency of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII). On this occasion, the Izola Declaration was adopted at the EUSAIR strategy forum in Portorož on Tuesday, underlining the European perspective of the Western Balkans, said Slovenian Foreign Minister Anže Logar.

The main topic of discussion of yesterday's meeting in Brussels was, as EU High Representative Josep Borrell explained, the situation in the Western Balkans, explaining that the goal of the talks was how to engage the European Union more strongly in the region and offer a better, stronger European perspective for the region.
Janša presenting EU presidency priorities in Athens
Athens – Prime Minister Janez Janša presented the priorities of the upcoming Slovenian EU presidency at the Delphi Economic Forum in Athens on Monday before meeting his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis and European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas. SVIZ launching campaign for Kustec to step down
Ljubljana – The SVIZ trade union of teachers will launch a campaign to collect signatures among teachers to call on Education Minister Simona Kustec to resign, in a bid to send out a clear message that the Education Ministry has not been run well over the past year, that is during the coronavirus epidemic.
Coronavirus cases ticking up again
Ljubljana – Slovenia logged 894 coronavirus cases for Monday in the second day the case count has been up week-on-week as pressure on hospitals has been somewhat relieved. Four Covid-19 patients died, government figures show.
A total of 4,024 PCR tests were performed yesterday, 22.2% of which came back positive, as 44,775 people were screened with rapid antigen tests.
Household deposits in Slovenia up to record EUR 23bn, central bank says
Ljubljana – Household deposits at banks rose by over EUR 2 billion to a record EUR 23 billion in the epidemic year of 2020 from 2019, the Slovenian central bank said on Tuesday. It attributed the rise to the labour market measures taken during the epidemic, which enabled income growth. But since many shops were closed, much of the income was not spent.
Survey indicates signs of pandemic fatigue showing in Slovenia
Ljubljana – A survey has found that signs of pandemic fatigue are already showing in Slovenia, and that it is becoming difficult for the people to follow the numerous restrictions and recommendations. The share of people who would get vaccinated is the highest so far, while young people are more sceptical about vaccines than older residents.
Slovenia to back Turkey for EU membership
Slovenia's Foreign Minister Anze Logar on May 4 pledged to play a constructive role for Turkey's membership in the
European Union.
Speaking at a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Logar said that Slovenia will encourage dialogue between the EU and Turkey during its mandate as president of the Council of the European Union.
