Minister: Readiness to solve political background

BELGRADE -- Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković says Serbia is "absolutely ready to reveal the political background of the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić."

"I am confident that we are absolutely ready for it. If we were able to find out who the killers are, I do not think it will be a problem to discover the masterminds," Selaković told TV Pink.

Asked if it was true that the EU was demanding the political background of the assassination to be resolved, Selaković said that "European parliamentarians submitted a request to the European Commission in which they demanded that during the accession negotiations the background of the assassination also be cleared up."

He stressed that it was necessary to shed light on the background of every murder, "especially the murder of someone who was a senior state official, such as a prime minister."

Asked whether "there is evidence somewhere in Europe" Selaković said that heard about it "through the media from EP Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin."

"From the moment I learned about that news, I said that we were asking to be sent all the data, if this is data from other countries, through international legal assistance. We are willing to accept really all the relevant evidence. So far we have not received anything,"said Selaković.

Zoran Đinđić was assassinated on March 12, 2003. Milorad Ulemek was sent to jail for 40 years for organizing the murder. The same sentence was handed down to JSO member Zvezdan Jovanović, as the direct perpetrator.
