SVM prepared to take part in government

SUBOTICA - The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) is prepared to take part in the government if the party programme presented in the election campaign is part of the programme of the next government, SVM leader Istvan Pastor said on Thursday.

He told a news conference in Subotica that Hungarians and other ethnicities will vote for the SVM at the snap parliamentary poll on Sunday.

"I am convinced that a large number of voters from our national community will vote for the SVM slate. We are also convinced that a significant number of people from outside the Hungarian communiry will vote for our candidate list, as one that brings sensible ideas and advocates a planned-out, brave and responsible political agenda," Pastor noted.

The SVM has not received negative feedback during the campaign when it comes to its ambition to be part of the government after the election, he stated.

"We are prepared to take part in governing this country, accept our part of the burden in that, if what we consider important and what has been listed in our election programme becomes part of the programme of the next government," he said.

He believes a good result for the SVM would be to win 5 seats in the parliament, which is what it had in the previous parliament.
