Strikers block railway traffic at Belgrade’s central station

BELGRADE - A number of international trains, including for Bar in Montenegro and Zurich in Switzerland, could not depart from Belgrade’s central station due to a strike staged by employees of the Serbian Railways on Monday.

According to a release from the Serbian Railways, a 40 strong group of employees in the enterprise blocked railway tracks at the central station, which has prevented departures and arrivals of trains at the station today.

The blockade, which is still underway, has caused the local passenger trains to start and end their trips at the Novi Beograd and Topcider stations.

The Serbian Railways warn that it is unacceptable to block railway lines and interrupt traffic in any protest as this impairs traffic safety and causes the state to suffer great losses.

According to the release, the workers are very unhappy that they did not receive their April salaries.

The management at the Serbian Railways are trying to find solutions to ensure a smooth running of the enterprise.
