'World War I Memorials in Belgrade' exhibition opens

BELGRADE -- Photography exhibition 'World War I Memorials in Belgrade' was opened on Monday on the Sava promenade at Kalemegdan.

Photography exhibition 'World War I Memorials in Belgrade', an event dedicated to the 100 years since the start of World War I, was opened on Monday on the Sava promenade at Kalemegdan.

Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali noted that this section of the Sava promenade was first opened 86 years ago to mark the victory of the Serbian army in World War I, adding that the monument Victor, still a symbol of Belgrade, was unveiled in late 1928.

The exhibition showcasing the photos of 42 WWI memorials located across Belgrade, which will remain open through October 12, is "a way to preserve the memory of all those who gave their lives to protect Belgrade and Serbia in this war," said Mali.

He thanked the author of the exhibition Aleksandar Bozovic and all employees of the Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments who worked on the project.

Institute Director Nela Micovic thanked the exhibition patron, Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, for its financial support and cooperation.
