Davenport: EU integration to speed up with new EC

BELGRADE - Michel Davenport, head of the EU delegation in Serbia, expressed belief on Friday that the new composition of the European Commission will result in intensification of relations and acceleration of the European integration process.

Noting that the new makeup of the European Commission will begin to work on Saturday, Davenport said this is a great opportunity for all, not only to maintain the level of engagement in terms of the enlargement, but also to intensify relations and speed of the European integration process.

Jadranka Joksimovic, minister without portfolio in charge of European integration, said at the presentation of results of the joint project of the EU and the Ministry of Education aimed at improving the quality of university education, that Serbia shares the same goals as the ones presented by new President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker - stabilization of the European economy and creation of jobs.

That is what we want to fight for as well and what this government is striving for, Joksimovic said, adding that the best way to realize this is through investing in education and knowledge.

The European Parliament approved the new EU commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker on October 22 and the EU's executive body will take office on November 1.

Juncker, a former Luxembourg prime minister, will replace Jose Manuel Barroso.
