The Foreign Affairs Minister, Titus Corlatean on Sunday night said that several Romanian embassies, the one in London among them have requested an extension of the voting process, but the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) decided to deny it.

"There were a few demands from some embassies, the one in London included to extend the voting schedule. The BEC, in accordance with the law decided not to do that and we took note of its decision. It's BEC's decision and I won't criticise it," Corlatean told private tv channel Antena 3.
The chief of Romania diplomacy explained that the crowd at the polling stations from abroad occurred after the Central Electoral Bureau has decided that the statement on one's own responsibility should be filled in in the polling station only, and when one gave up this decision, the voting process sped up.

"The BEC has taken note of the problems with the affluence of people and took this decision to complete this statement in a easier way, somehow outside the Embassy even if with risks, and then an acceleration of the voting process occurred. The BEC had a correct attitude in fact, since it wished to avoid any kind of fraud as it happened in 2009. So, the procedure was accelerated and this was preceivable in Spain too, where the voting process has ended (...) in all the 38 polling stations — as many as there were organised in 2009 — right, even if an affluence was noticed, they have all cast their vote. The sole exception, according to what I know from the Embassy, in Valencia where only 50 Romanian nationals, I'm sorry to say it, could not vote, in the rest they've all voted," Corlatean explained.

The minister also said situations similar to those in Paris and London were in Munich, Germany.AGERPRES
