Romania's president-elect Klaus Iohannis, still the chair of the opposition National Liberal Party, vowed to continue Romania's partnership as the head of state, and prove the country is a serious, credible and long-term partner.

'A good thought to our foreign partners. I will continue the partnerships that are the pillars of Romania's foreign policy — the strategic partnership with the United States, our role and place in NATO, our role and place in the EU. I will prove Romania is a serious, credible and long-term partner,' Iohannis said in a press conference on Monday.

He added he will be the president of all Romanians.

'I will be the president of Romanians. I will be a free president; I will represent you,' he promised.

Moreover, he invited the government to submit as soon as possible the 2015 budget to the Parliament. 'The sooner, the better,' the president-elect asserted.

Christian Liberal Alliance's candidate Iohannis got 54.50 percent of the votes in the presidential runoff elections on Sunday, defeating incumbent Prime Minister Victor Ponta, which had the support of his Social Democrat Party, National Union for Romania's Progress and Conservative Party and got 45.49 percent. The figures were published by the Central Electoral Bureau at 11am on Monday, after totalling the reports of 18,673polling stations (99.07 percent of them).AGERPRES
