Turkey's Ambassador Suleyman Gokce Criticises Plans For Fence Along Border

Turkey's ambassador to Bulgaria Suleyman Gokce said that his country was against the construction of a fence along the entire border between Bulgaria and Turkey.

"Turkey accepted the fence under the condition that is only partial and temporary," Gokce said in an interview for the BNT public broadcaster. "We haven't discussed a fence along the entire border. Only a week ago we marked the fall of the Berlin Wall. Relations would develop not by constructing new fences and walls, but by increasing cooperation."

Gokce added that Turkey has deported more than 1000 fighters of the Islamic State. According to him, there was no danger of radical elements crossing into Bulgaria.

In his interview he also discussed the EU membership of Turkey and the business relations between Bulgaria and Turkey.
