Colonel among group arrested on corruption charges

BELGRADE -- The Military-Security Agency has filed criminal complaints against six persons suspected of receiving and giving bribes.

Among them is an army officer with the rank of colonel, it has been announced.

Of the group, four are professional members of the MoD and the Army, one is a retired MoD worker, and one a civilian.

The first-accused is the colonel, S.B., from the Personnel Directorate of the Ministry of Defense. He is charged with receiving bribes on several occasions in order to abuse his official position and powers "to solve status and employment issues" within the ministry and the Army.

After he was held in police custody, the suspect was "handed over the the higher public prosecutor in Belgrade along with the criminal complaint," while other suspects will not be detained during the trial.
