NBS: Serbia makes progress on list of economic freedoms

BELGRADE - Serbia achieved certain progress on this year's list of Index of Economic Freedom and moved from the group of 'mostly unfree' countries to the category of 'moderately free' countries, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) released.

On the list drafted by the Washington-based Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal, Serbia claimed the 90th place with 60 point among 178 ranked countries, which is by 0.6 points better ranking compared to last year's index.

Progress was achieved in five out of ten economic freedoms, including monetary freedom, freedom from corruption, property rights, freedom of trade and freedom of the labour market, NBS noted.

Serbia's transition toward a more open and dynamic market economy will still require commitment to deep institutional and structural reforms, NBS states on its website.
