Gentiloni: Italy will back opening of chapters

BELGRADE - Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Italy's Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni noted on Tuesday that the two countries have excellent political relations.

In a meeting with Serbia's prime minister in Belgrade, Gentiloni underlined that Serbia contributes to stability in the entire region (Western Balkans), and stated that the Italian government will advocate that EU negotiation chapters with Serbia be opened soon.

The officials noted that the frequent meetings between officials and sessions of the two governments take good relations even further, the government's media relations office said in a release.

Vucic noted that the volume of the trade between Serbia and Italy stood at EUR 3.6 billion in 2014, and voiced the expectation that Serbia would attract new Italian investments, primarily in the fields of agriculture and food industry.

Italy's Foreign Minister Gentiloni said that Serbia's participation in the Universal Exhibition EXPO 2015, which will take place in Milan, will be an opportunity for Serbia to present itself in the best possible way.
