The Bulgarian men's national volleyball team occupied the fourth place in this year's edition of the men's volleyball European Championship.

Bulgaria suffered a 1:3 defeat to Italy (20:25, 14:25, 25:23, 20:25) in the third place match which was played at the Arena Armeec hall in Sofia on Sunday.

The co-hosts of the 29th edition of the tournament faced each other after losing respectively to France (2:3) and Slovenia (1:3) in the semifinals on Saturday.

The final, which will take place at the Arena Armeec hall in the Bulgarian capital at 20:45 EET, pits against each other the teams of France and Slovenia.

France, having won this year's edition of the World League, is the favourite in the final, but the team of Slovenia should not be underestimated.

So far, Slovenia is the big surprise of the tournament having successively defeated the reigning world champion Poland (3:2) and Italy (3:1).

Italy claimed its third bronze medal at the European Championships, while Bulgaria repeated its performance from the 2013 edition of the tournament.
