Migrant settlements in the center of Athens (pics+vid)

The refugees and immigrants who are stranded in Athens have set more than fifty tents in a park in the center of Greece’s capital since they are not allowed to continue their journey to northern Greece and then to other EU countries.

The situation is out of control, since more refugees and immigrants are arriving every day, while Greek authorities have not taken action. Only the people of NGOs who have rushed to the area are trying to help and coordinate the situation.

A few miles away, the stranded refugees have also turned Victoria square into a temporary settlement.

Yesterday, two immigrants attempted to hung themselves by a tree at the square protesting for being stuck in Greece and not being able to continue their journey, since FYROM has protesting for being stuck in Greece and not being able to continue their journey, since FYROM has closed its border.

 

 

Moreover, refugees and immigrants are temporarily hosted to the Piraeus’s passenger stations.

On Friday morning another ferry arrived at Piraeus carrying refugees from the GReek islands. “Ariadni” ferry arrived carrying with 1,473 refugees Mytilene and Chios, while “Blue Star 2″ carrying 279 refugees and migrants (48 from Rhodes, 56 from Kos and 175 from Leros) also docked at Piraeus.
