The Summer Season in Bulgaria Begins with Traffic Congestion

This year's summer season in Bulgaria begins with traffic congestion and blockades on the roads. The toughest situation will be traditionally on the Hemus highway, which will have restrictions all summer. By the middle of June, a repair will take place some 20 kilometers from the Trakia highway after Plovdiv. The traffic on the Lyulin highway is still limited due to the landslides there. Thus, in practice, all the main routes that lead from Sofia to the sea are currently blocked.

On the Hemus highway the restrictions will continue throughout the summer. In addition to the repairs of the pipes in the direction of Sofia to the Echemiska and Vitinya tunnels, urgent repairs are also required on some of the bridges - for example at 36 km. This was announced by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov during his visit to Shumen yesterday. "The bridge facility is in a tragic state and needs repair," said Nankov. .

Repairing the Hemus highway on the territory of the Shumen district in the direction of Varna also creates a problem for the drivers. Nankov promised repairs would finish by June 22 at the latest. Construction of the new section of Hemus from Belokopitovo to Buhovtsi road junction will not fit into the summer repairs and will start in September.
