Goalkeeper Petkov Gets Bulgarian Call up at 42

SOFIA (Reuters) - Slavia Sofia's 42-year-old goalkeeper Georgi Petkov has rejoined the Bulgarian national squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches against Cyprus and Norway.

Petkov, who was born in March 1976, last appeared for the Balkan country in a friendly international against Switzerland in February 2009 and has been selected several times since.

 

Turkey's Female Volleyball Team Beats Bulgaria in World Championship

Turkey beat Bulgaria 3-0 in Group B in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan on Tuesday.

Turkey is competing in Group B with China, Italy, Bulgaria, Canada, and Cuba. Turkey defeated Bulgaria 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-12) and had a second victory in the group matches.

Bulgaria to Send 24 Athletes to Buenos Aires Youth Olympics

SOFIA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria will send 24 athletes to the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires next month, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) said here on Tuesday.

The 24 athletes will compete in 14 sports, the BOC said.

BOC's president Stefka Kostadinova will lead the Bulgarian delegation.

Turkish Fencer Scores Gold Medal in Bulgaria

ANKARA

Turkish fencer Enver Yildirim on Saturday won a gold medal at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Satellite Tournament hosted by Bulgaria. 

Yildirim bagged the gold medal at the finals by beating French rival Francesco D'armiento 15-7, said the Turkish Fencing Federation in a statement.
