Greece is possibly the one and only country that admires the art of the political turnaround. I often hear fans of former prime minister Andreas Papandreou praising how he railed against the European Economic Community, NATO and American bases, yet managed to keep the bases and keep the country inside NATO and the EEC. "He was a great politician; that was clever," they say.
Normalcy relies on institutions
We all want a return to normalcy and the country certainly needs it. However, one bond issue or the completion of a review of the implementation of the bailout program are not enough.
For the country to become normal, it needs strong institutions that work well.
Investments inside and outside of Greece need a functioning judiciary, security and rules that apply to everybody.
Lafazanis claims Russian cash could have helped with Grexit
Former energy minister Panayotis Lafazanis, who left SYRIZA in the summer of 2015 to set up a new leftist, pro-drachma party, said on Saturday that when he was in government he agreed with Moscow that Russia would make a downpayment for a gas pipeline so the money could be used to finance Greece if it left the euro.
Kos damage 'concentrated within small area,' officials assure
People walk along the damaged port of Kos, which along with several buildings in the island's main town suffered considerable damage from Friday morning's 6.6 magnitude earthquake. Two people were killed and many others injured as a result of the tremor.
20 injured people still under treatment, Turkish PM says over strong quake
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that 20 injured people were still under treatment after strong quake which hit the Aegean coast of Turkey.
Yıldırım made a statement about the 6.6. magnitude eartquake in the Aegean province of Muğla on July 22.
He said three derelict buildings completely collapsed and 32 buildings were heavily damaged in the Muğla's resort Bodrum.
