Violonist Alexandru Tomescu, to be decorated with Order of the Star of Italy

Violonist Alexandru Tomescu on Wednesday will be decorated with the Order of the Star of Italy, the Knight Class, for special merits in promoting the Italian culture.

According to a release of the Embassy of Italy in Bucharest, the distinction will be granted on behalf of Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano by Italian Ambassador to Romania Diego Brasioli, the moment being part of the concert celebrating Italy's taking over the rotating presidency of the European Council.

Alexandru Tomescu will perform Niccolo Paganini's Concerto No 2 for violin and orchestra, at the Romanian Athenaeum, on Wednesday, under the baton of conductor Gian Luigi Zampieri, within a programme exclusively made up of works signed by Italian composers.

On occasion of the concert for the inauguration of the Italian presidency of the European Union Council, the Embassy of Italy wants to bring to mind the activity of the organisation 'Hope and Homes for Children,' which, for 15 years has been involved in supporting disfavoured children of Romania. Over 24,000 children were supported by this foundation, which provided them with a home and a family.

Alexandru Tomescu has been a HHC Romania Ambassador since 2012, having managed, through Stradivarius National Tour, to raise funds directed to projects devoted to the fight against abandonment, the release of the Embassy of Italy also shows. AGERPRES
