Nikolic, Dacic talk with Russian Transport Minister

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic had separate meetings in Belgrade on Tuesday with a delegation of the Russian Federation, led by Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov.

In the building of the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic, Nikolic conferred with Sokolov, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin and President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin.

In talks with Sokolov, Dacic voiced satisfaction over today's beginning of works on the section from Belgrade to Pancevo that are financed by funds from the Russian loan for reconstruction of the railway infrastructure.

The prime minister underlined that the modernization of the railway infrastructure is one of the Serbian government's priorities.

Serbia’s railway upgrade will further contribute to the country’s economic development and therefore, the realization of the project beginning today is of great economic importance, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said during a meeting with a Russian state delegation led by Transportation Minister Maksim Sokolov.

“Railway transportation development will help improve other industries, ensure a faster flow of goods and the quality of services for travelers will be raised to a higher level,” Nikolic said at the meeting with Minister Sokolov, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin and Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin.

Sokolov pointed out that the project will be carried out according to the agreed schedule, the Serbian president’s press office said in a release.

The project will contract Serbian companies, which means new jobs for Serbian citizens, the release said.
