Ohad Naharin for Blic: I expect from audience to understand me

The more I am dealing with coreography, the more I enjoy

This is how Ohad Naharin described his job. His work 'Minus One' shall be presented by the Les Grands Ballets Canadiens at the 11th Belgrade Dance Festival.

 

- Coreography helped me give up some old ideas for the sake of new ones - Naharin points out. He had his coreography debut in New York in 1980. Today he is a favorate guest artist of numerous companies worldwide. According to his words the work on the 'Minus One' offered him 'a different playground for creation'.

Naharin frequently composes music for his coreographies and sign himself with pseudonym Maxim Waratt.
- Maxim is busy composing music for a duet for some new creations. (He is in prison because of shop lifting) – Naharin says.

 

 

- This work has been made for the Les Grands Ballets Canadiens especially. The composition is based on the existing material of the previous creations. That provides me a short process that I can work on outside of the Batsheva Dance Company. For me it is always a new experience that I am learning from. In all of my works I like to seek ways in which I connect context and form, so something that is clearly visible and something just hinted, explosive, powerful and delicate – Naharin says.
