MAE: Romania, Turkey hail incoming signing of Moldova's agreements with EU

MAE reports in a press release that Ciamba reiterated Romania's support for Turkey's accession to the EU, voicing trust in the negotiations moving forward under the Italian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

State Secretary for European Affairs with Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) on Thursday welcomed Murat Salim Esenli, permanent deputy undersecretary for European affairs with Turkey's Foreign Ministry. The two officials hailed the incoming full signing at the European Council summit, of free trade agreements between the EU and Moldova and Georgia, as well as the remaining chapter in the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine, including a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement, on the sidelines of the summit.

The Romanian official underscored that the recent ratification by the Turkish Parliament of a readmission agreement signed in December 2013 is an important step in Turkey's cooperation with the EU.

The two officials hailed the excellent level of the bilateral relations and the consistent dynamic of the political dialogue after the latest high-level visits, especially in the years 2013-2014 and the signing in 2013 of an action plan for the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Turkey. Both officials encouraged intensified economic cooperation and a rise in reciprocal investment in areas such as energy, transportation, tourism, infrastructure and defence, confirming a shared objective of boosting trade to 8 billion euros in the next years.

Ciamba underscored the need for political support and financial assistance being granted to Moldova in its process of democratic reforms. In their conversation on the latest developments in Ukraine, the two officials underscored that the election of a new president is a real step forward toward stability in the country.
