Ponta announces visit to the Republic of Moldova next week

Prime Minister Victor Ponta at the Government meeting on Tuesday announced he will pay a visit to the Republic of Moldova next week and requested the check-up of all the support projects that Romania carries out for this country.

'Next week I shall visit the Republic of Moldova, I want to check up each project. The gas pipeline, the kindergartens, the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD), the cars we donate to the public administration that you have. At the Government meeting on Tuesday we should make an assessment of the situation of all support projects for the Republic of Moldova. I believe it is essential that during these times when they are submitted to all kinds of sanctions by the Russian Federation we show them we concretely support them, not just with kind words, but with absolutely concrete things,' Ponta said.

He also spoke of the trade partnership with the Republic of Moldova and of this partnership's meaning for Chisinau.

'I am glad that Romania has become the country from which the Republic of Moldova imports most goods, for this means we are also becoming an important trade partner and alongside with the development of the institutions it is the greatest support we can grant to the Republic of Moldova in its EU aspirations,' the Prime Minister said.

On the other hand, Ponta asked Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean to coordinate and synchronise Romania's position with that of the European states and the US regarding the Russian Federation also in terms of the sanctions decided at European level.
