Stefanovic thanks Hungary and Austria for support

BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic expressed his gratitude to Hungary and Austria on Friday for their support to Serbia on its path towards the European Union and in the fight against illegal migrations.

The Serbian Interior Minister is on an official visit to Hungary, where he met with his Hungarian and Austrian counterparts Sandor Pinter and Johanna Mikl-Leitner, respectively.

The three countries share a common goal, the promotion of police cooperation in the fight against illegal migrations, the officials agreed at the meeting.
"EU accession is of great significance for Serbia. The support of Hungary and Austria in the fight against illegal migrations is strongly appreciated. Considering that Serbia borders with the European Union, a larger number of migrants could cause additional problems," said Stefanovic, according to a release issued by the Serbian Ministry of the Interior.

Hungary, Austria and Serbia, and their border and criminal police forces, work together on addressing the issue of increased migration and on countering organized criminal groups, said Stefanovic.

In a bilateral meeting, the interior ministers of Hungary and Serbia focused on enhancing the cooperation between the two ministries, especially having in mind that the two neighboring countries share similar problems that can be solved only through joint and persistent efforts.

Stefanovic underlined the excellent cooperation based on good relations and a long-standing friendship between Serbia and Hungary, and voiced his support for the opening of old Horgos/Roszke border crossing, which will be useful for the citizens of both countries.
