President Iohannis: Romania firmly supports continuing the European, democratic path of Ukraine

President Klaus Iohannis welcomed, on Tuesday, to the Cotroceni Palace, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, context in which he relayed the firm support of Romania for continuing the European and democratic path of Ukraine.

According to the Presidential Administration, the discussion between the two officials focused especially on the perspective of developing bilateral relations and the evolution of the situation in Ukraine after the signing of the new Minsk Agreement of February 12 regarding a cease-fire in the eastern part of Ukraine.

In that context, President Iohannis expressed hope that the entry into force, on February 15, of an unconditional and comprehensive truce, will be respected by all those involved and will lead to a stabilization of the situation in the region.

"The President of Romania reaffirmed support towards ensuring the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and relayed the firm support of Romania for continuing the European and democratic path of Ukraine", the Presidential Administration shows.

Furthermore, emphasized was the particular importance for the success of this endeavor of continuing and deepening, by the authorities in Kiev, the internal reform process, especially in the realms of fighting against corruption and consolidating state institutions.

The discussions were also attended by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Bucharest, Teofil Bauer.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, is conducting an official visit to Bucharest. AGERPRES
