Opposition party to join DS rally on April 25

BELGRADE -- New Party (Nova Stranka, NS) will join a protest rally that the Democrats (DS) have announced for April 25 in Belgrade.

The NS leader and former Serbian prime minister, Zoran Zivkovic, said on Wednesday that it was "appropriate for the protest to be held - because both the opposition and the citizens find many faults with the government."

He told a news conference that a rally of support to Aleksandar Vucic and the government that the Serb Progressives (SNS) will organize in Novi Sad was "indecent and bot-like."

"Such rallies happen in North Korea," Zivkovic said.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday that his party's supporters would gather "in a low-key manner" after the DS rally had ended, "and after they (the DS) have demonstrate all their anger and fury."

DS leader Bojan Pajtic said earlier that their protest will be held in Belgrade because that is the seat of the government, rather than in Novi Sad.

The Democrats are in opposition in the national assembly, but in power in the province of Vojvodina, where the state-level ruling SNS is in opposition.

Vucic on Monday announced that his party's rally in Novi Sad, planned for April 25, would be postponed.
