UAE to appoint ambassador to Turkey

The United Arab Emirates has decided to appoint an ambassador to Turkey after three years of coldness in ties, the Turkish foreign minister has said, noting that the new envoy would begin his job in Ankara on May 7. 

"We have agreed to develop our bilateral ties in every field. We have discussed all issues in a very casual spirit," Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu told reporters after his meetings with UAE senior leaders on April 25. The minister said his visit to Abu Dhabi marked a new term between the two countries and the opening of a new page in ties. 

Çavu?o?lu became the first senior Turkish official to visit the UAE since May 2013 as the relations between the two countries soured over the toppling of Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, in July 2013. 

The UAE decided to withdraw its envoy from Ankara after the Turkish leadership strongly criticized the coup in Egypt and some Arab countries that lent support to the coup leader, Abdel Fettah el-Sisi.
