EU urged to return SE Europe to top of agenda

Slovenia's Borut Pahor, Croatia's Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Germany's Frank Walter Steinmeier made the appeal after talking to Western Balkan presidents at the summit of the leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni Process on Saturday.

Pahor said it was clear that there was a lack of dialogue so it was important that the leaders meet and talk. He said the preservation of stability in the region had to be on the agenda of the EU as well as all member states and diplomats.

Enlargement has stalled due to issues such as Brexit, relations with Russia and Turkey, the situation in the Middle East. "There is no reason why we should not try to prevent Western Balkans from appearing on the list of these issues," he said. "We have to do everything to preserve peace, security and prosperity."
