The Introduction of Cheaper Roaming in the Balkans may be Delayed

The cheap roaming in the Balkans, which was negotiated during the Bulgarian Euro-Presidency, may be delayed for technical reasons. This was made clear by the words of EU Commissioner for Digital Economy, Maria Gabriel, before the Bulgarian National Television.

It is expected at the Belgrade Digital Summit on April 4 and 5 that six countries sign a new regional agreement on cheaper roaming between the Western Balkan countries and the European Union, Gabriel said.

In its words, as a result, mobile data transfer prices will be reduced first so that 1 MB costs 70 eurocents instead of 12-14 euros as it is now. However, it is unclear when the tariffs will begin to change.

"Some operators say that it is technically very difficult to get done by July, including because budgets are being made, but I continue to point out that they are not learning about this just now, as it was clear at the summit in May 2018 in Sofia, "said Maria Gabriel. She added that negotiations on the issue would be in the coming weeks.
