Ahmet Ümit sells 300,000 in one week

The first edition of a new novel by Turkish novelist Ahmet Ümit, titled "Elveda Güzel Vatan?m" (Farewell my Beautiful Motherland), sold out within the first week after its release on Dec. 5, causing the book's publisher, Everest, to print 50,000 more copies. 

Selah Sue to perform in Istanbul

Belgian musician and songwriter Selah Sue will take the stage at Istanbul's Babylon Bomonti on Dec. 17.

The 26-year-old singer's debut album "Selah Sue" was released in 2011.

Cruises wipe out Istanbul to add more of Greece!

Celebrity Cruises have wiped Istanbul out of their routes for 2016 due to limited availability of moorings at port operations.

This eliminates the initially planned overnight stays of Celebrity Reflection and Celebrity Equinox.

Instead, Celebrity Reflection will extend the time spent in Athens on an overnight stay and also call at Chania in Crete and Bodrum in Turkey.

Presidential Awards handed out by Erdo?an

The Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards 2015 were handed out on Dec. 9 by President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Ankara. 

New translation award presented at ceremony

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (?KSV) has introduced a translation award in honor of Talât Sait Halman, who died last year, to support outstanding translations of literary works, including but not limited to poetry, short stories and novels. 

María Pagés comes to CRR

Flamenco choreographer and dancer María Pagés will perform at Istanbul's CRR Concert Hall on Dec. 13.
 
An internationally-renowned artist for her personal aesthetic concept of the art of flamenco, Pagés began dancing professionally with the Antonio Gades Company.

Guitar fest to open in Antalya

The 4th International Antalya Guitar Festival will run from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12 in Turkey's southern province of Antalya.

EU launches Film Days in Turkey to promote human rights

The European Union will mark this year's Human Rights Day with movies addressing individual rights, human dignity and the experiences of a varied group of people, bringing 33 documentaries to audiences in Ankara between Dec 7 and 20 and in Istanbul between Dec. 9 and 18.
