Jovanovic: It is time for LDP

BELGRADE - Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Cedomir Jovanovic said that his party does not want to wage a war in the election campaign but instead to collaborate with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its leader Aleksandar Vucic.

"I don't know what the future government will look like, but I will never compromise on core ideas. Enough with wars, let the most competent person lead us," stressed Jovanovic at the Monday's pre-election convention in Belgrade.

Jovanovic accused his main political rivals who have held power over the past years of robbing the country and failing to conduct fundamental reforms.

"It is time for LDP, because all others have already tried their hand several times, and they failed," said Jovanovic, urging the citizens not to be afraid of reforms.

"Reforms won't eat us, but economic poverty will," he stressed.

Those who are now in power are not competent to lead Serbia into future, but their efforts to bring Serbia closer to Europe and to solve the issue of Kosovo should be acknowledged, said president of the Social Democratic Union (SDU) Zarko Korac, one of the candidates on LDP's list.

Serbian economy is struggling, but the SNS, currently the strongest party in power, has no economic program and we do not know who Vucic intends to work with, he said.

"Somebody wants enlightened absolutism in the country," noted Korac, and warned the voters that “in the Balkans the enlightened part quickly falls off, but the absolutism remains".
