An Unusual Wedding: Applications for 200,000 Dinars and a Wife

The Groom, Buda Kostadinovic is 53 years old, while the bride, Svetlana Mitic is 38. Their married life has begun thanks to their local municipality's program.

Buda is from Golocevac, a village 18 kilometers away from Trgoviste. Svetlana is from Nesvrte, a small village 26 kilometers away from Vranska Banja. Recently they have joined hands in marriage and now they happily proclaim their love.

Nenad Krstic, the Mayor of Trgoviste explained, “Svetlana and Buda are 91 years old if you combine their ages, which is related to the distance between them, 91 kilometers. From today on, love will bind them. The newlyweds decided to marry in Targoviste and they will receive 200,000 dinars from our municipal program to encourage birth and family wellbeing.”

At this unusual ceremony there was no wedding ring, wedding dresses, or suits, but instead, next to the Mayor were reporters and TV cameras, as Svetlana and Buda became the first beneficiaries of this unique program that Trgoviste has to offer.

The marriage officiant, Jovica Trajkovic, completed the ceremony with the couple announcing “Yes” in the presence of the godfathers Igor Nedeljkovic from Vranje, and Srba Spasic from Stajevac.

“Svetlana and I met by chance at her job in a restaurant in Vranje. I was waiting in line and she caught my eye and I thought “my god,” explained Buda with a large grin on his face.

Shortly after the wedding, the bride, groom, and maid of honor celebrated at the café which was hosted by the mayor of Trgoviste.
