Screening on Serbia's regional policy starts Wednesday

BELGRADE/BRUSSELS - The explanatory screening for Chapter 22 is scheduled to start in Brussels on Wednesday tabling regional policy and coordination of structural instruments comprising the regulations on planning and implementation of the EU cohesion policy and realization of the Europe 2020 strategic goals by means of European structural and investment funds.

The screening will tackle regulations that define the goals of the EU cohesion policy for the period 2014-2020, the funds for its realization (the European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and the Cohesion Fund), the activities that may be financed, principles and rules of providing support and the amount of available funds.

The regulations also determine the program documents, which need to be harmonized with the European Commission, and the institutional framework that has to be established for the purpose of program management.

The explanatory screening is the first phase of the screening process in which the EC will present the EU acquis divided into negotiating chapters.

The bilateral screening meeting for this chapter is scheduled for January 28 and 29 next year in Brussels.
